Odds & Ends I

Many issues come up when traveling with kids - where to stay, what to eat, snacks, cooking for finiky kids, shopping in strange supermarkets trying to find something to buy, dealing with allergic reactions, cuts, bruises, and just keeping everyone happy.  I will try to tackle these kinds of issues here

Where to stay - Villas/condos vs. hotels.  We have stayed at both types of and find usually villas/condos a better way to go because the kids have more space to play and shout without disturbing everyone, its usually cheaper or equivalent to staying in a decent hotel, you can save money or not by cooking. In big cities there is usually no issue of transportation as you can use public transport.  In smaller cities you would probably have to rent a car anyway.   These days with the internet its easy - there are lots of sites with vacation rentals to choose from, you can read reviews and also check travel forums to get the real scoop.  The downside to villas is no daily maid service (although some provide this), usually self catering (some provide cooks for a fee or you can always go to restaurants), and they usually will not rent for less than 3 days or so.  So sometimes you just have to go with a hotel - again sites like Trip Advisor are your best friend.
